TheNINE also has a lot of A class members. In the first ever season of Produce 101, most members of IOI (the only group that wasn’t rigged) were from the A class, the audience does see talent. The silver lining is that oftentimes the best of the best is popular, and their hardwork and talent does shine through.
YANG CHAOYUE PLUS
Plus there’s usually only one “untalented” person per group. Sometimes someone who’s not considered “good enough” will make it because they either have a company backing them, or they have enough fans to carry them (Yang chaoyue, Kim sohye, Esther Yu).Īnd in defense of those “useless” idols (the ones backed by fans not the ones whose companies secured their spot), I have to say that they have definitely brought me joy in some way that compensated for their lack of dancing and singing skills, and isn’t bringing joy a job of an idol? For example, every time Yang Chaoyue opens her mouth I die laughing, the energy she brings is priceless.

The harsh truth is that the Produce series is a popularity contest controlled by corporations. Theres a lot of complaints that so and so are ranked high even though they’re bad at singing and dancing, or how unfair it is that someone else is ranked lower even though they’re more talented. I often see a lot of complaints (on multiple platforms) that talent doesn’t matter, only popularity.
